Wait - we’re already halfway through 2025? Wild. And if June is any sign of what’s coming, the second half of the year is going to be even more exciting. From billion-dollar acquisitions to software revolutions and game-changing IoT events, here’s a quick, short and sweet dive into what just happened in the world of tech.

1. Nordic Semiconductor Acquires Memfault: The Chip-to-Cloud Leap

In a move that shook up the IoT world, Nordic Semiconductor acquired Memfault for $120 million, becoming the first semiconductor company to offer a complete chip-to-cloud platform.

This isn’t just another M&A headline - it’s a strategic pivot. Nordic is now integrating Memfault’s cloud-native tools (like OTA updates and real-time device monitoring) directly with its wireless chips. The result? A more seamless, intelligent, and scalable way to manage IoT devices throughout their lifecycle.

Why it matters: This positions Nordic at the forefront of AI-enabled, cloud-connected IoT and they expect the new business to hit profitability within 24 months.

2. Karpathy on “Software 3.0”: Code, But Not As You Know It

At the AI Startup School, Andrej Karpathy (former Tesla and OpenAI lead) dropped a visionary keynote that’s still buzzing in dev circles.

He introduced the concept of Software 3.0: a world where we no longer write software in code, but speak it into existence using large language models. Natural language becomes the new programming interface, and AI agents the new runtime.

This paradigm shift demands new infrastructure - prompt tooling, agent orchestration, and uncertainty management. But it also democratizes who gets to build software. If you can describe it, you can build it.

3. Morse Micro & Heltec Launch Wi‑Fi HaLow for Long-Range IoT

In June 2025, Morse Micro partnered with Heltec to release a line of IoT devices powered by Wi‑Fi HaLow (802.11ah). Unlike traditional Wi-Fi, these devices operate in sub‑GHz bands - offering kilometer-scale range and multi‑megabit data rates with low power consumption. The new products (including a gateway, USB bridge, and camera module) enable long-distance, high-throughput connections ideal for smart cities, agriculture, and industrial IoT. The launch fills the performance gap between Wi‑Fi and LPWAN, unlocking scalable, reliable IoT deployments across large or remote areas.

4. IoT Tech Expo NA 2025: Innovation on Display

Held June 4–5 in Santa Clara, the IoT Tech Expo North America drew 8,000+ attendees and hundreds of exhibitors across AI, cybersecurity, edge, and more.

Top 3 Highlights:

  1. Digital Twins + Predictive Analytics
Real-time simulations and data-driven decision-making took center stage. From smart cities to factories, digital twin tech is driving uptime, efficiency, and proactive maintenance.
  2. AIoT (AI + IoT Fusion)
Telenor IoT spotlighted how embedded AI can turn raw sensor data into immediate, intelligent action. Think: self-optimizing systems that just work.
  3. LoRaWAN for Smart Infrastructure
The LoRa Alliance demoed scalable, ultra-low-power networks powering the next generation of smart agriculture, cities, and utilities - proving that low-bandwidth doesn’t mean low-impact.

If June is anything to go by, the second half of 2025 is going to be packed with more breakthroughs, deeper AI integrations, and smarter everything. We’ll be watching, and building, right alongside it.
