Is Your IoT Project Falling Apart? You Might Be Missing a Green

Karol Miszczyk
CIO

Despite a maze of complex, varied technologies, IoT solutions still work seamlessly. Know why?

No? No worries. It’s all thanks to the expertise and professionalism of the people behind the hardware, firmware, connectivity, cloud, AI, and interfaces. Devices - they provide the data, the cloud processes it, and interfaces bring it to life.

Unfortunately, even if each of these components is the best on the market individually, a solution won't succeed if the others fail. Only when all parts work together seamlessly, towards a common goal, can we talk about stability. That’s the challenge of building IoT solutions - it requires an exceptional, often underappreciated skillset, led not just by technical expertise but by empathy.

In today’s episode of our series on IoT personalities, I’d like to introduce (of course, an imaginary) Mr. Green, who has this skill at a high level.

1. About Me

Hello, thank you for the kind words in the introduction. Hopefully I’ll live up to the expectations!
My name is Green, and what I do best is be in someone’s shoes. Haha, not literally - I’d never steal shoes - though I must say, yours are really elegant, and if I were to go to jail, it would probably be for those!

Okay, back to the main topic...I do have the ability to understand other people’s perspectives, their situations and make sure everyone feels heard and understood. I'm rather reserved myself, and honestly, I don’t feel very confident when meeting new people because I fear conflict, and I tend to be cautious and wary.

I value authenticity, so all the small talks, "superficial conversations" feel unnatural to me. Between us, I believe that only when we understand a person’s reasoning, feelings, and arguments can we get a full picture of the situation. That’s when we can make much better, more sustainable decisions.

My Favourite Quotes

“Kindness is the language which the deaf can hear and the blind can see.” - Mark Twain
“Waste no more time arguing what a good man should be. Be one.” - Marcus Aurelius
“Be tolerant with others and strict with yourself.” - Marcus Aurelius
“The most important thing in communication is hearing what isn’t said.” - Peter Drucker

2. My Role in IoT

I do everything I can to make the IoT world more accessible for everyone, including you! I care because I know what it’s like to face a complex project. It’s very easy to get lost, and even easier to fall down the rabbit hole. That’s why I work every day to ensure we all collaborate harmoniously on the bigger picture.

If Yellow is the bridge-builder between people and technology, then I’m the glue, the cement.
If Blue creates the devices, I help verify how they work with the cloud and whether they bring value.
If Red defines the scope and the next milestones, I make sure everyone understands why.

Everyone has their place in this crazy puzzle of devices, clouds, and interfaces, and my task is to make sure every gear runs smoothly, without unnecessary friction or grinding. That means I need to fully understand how the solution works and what value it delivers.

Though I don’t lead by command, I take responsibility for the team’s synergy and progress. I coordinate efforts, ensure alignment on expectations, support team members in their roles, and collaborate with Red to maintain scope, all to make sure we reach meaningful milestones without losing sight of each other.

I like to take time to think things through before acting. That’s why I naturally support planning...not only from a technical perspective, but also considering the business context and human impact. I often participate in meetings with our client’s own customers or users to better understand their needs. I make sure the solution works smoothly in its real-world setting, where it truly matters.

In short – I’m a caretaker.

3. Working with Me

I value deep relationships, and I’m good at resolving conflicts, though I am sensitive. Below are a few thoughts on how to build a good working relationship with me:

  • Don’t be afraid to share details - I appreciate meaningful relationships and will reciprocate. You can trust me.
  • I prefer to take time to reflect before reacting. It allows me to approach challenges with greater understanding and balance.
  • Let’s resolve conflicts calmly, avoiding blame and aggression.
  • I prefer to work with a plan - I don’t do well under time pressure.
  • Don’t attack me personally or insult me - try to be constructive.
  • I perform best in roles that involve working with people.

4. Conclusion

In a world of urgency, rushing, tight deadlines, constant inflation, and relentless cost optimization, we often forget what truly matters - why we’re doing all this in the first place.

Many IoT experts focus so much on proof of technology that they forget the proof of value. That's why involving 'Green' personalities is so valuable - they serve as navigators who instinctively sense where a solution should truly be heading.
